Richard is a Senior Lecturer in Computing teaching on a variety of modules for both Computing, Business IT and Business degrees.

After completing a management degree at the University of Leeds in 1997, Richard worked as a Pre & Post Sales Consultant and Sales Manager in the telecoms industry throughout his 20s, dealing with some of the country’s major telecoms suppliers such as Lucent, AVAYA, CISCO and Mitel on a regular basis, providing high end, complete voice and data networking solutions to SMEs as well as some of the country’s largest companies.

Then in 2004 Richard took the plunge and returned to studies, completing a PGCE in Post Compulsory Education followed by PG Cert in English Language. Richard went on to spend the next 8 years teaching in a large general FE college in Birmingham, where he managed work-based learning provision at all levels and created bespoke courses for industry as well as teaching English, Maths and ICT. As a certified E-Guide Richard was also heavily involved in supporting and training staff in E-learning, including teaching on the teacher-training diploma (DTLLS), specialising in Technology Supporting Learning.

Richard indulged his passion for all things 'tech' by completing an MSc in Computing at Birmingham City University, graduating in the summer of 2013. The programme combined the rigour of academic discipline, with leading edge technical IT skills, and leveraged international IT brands such as CISCO, Oracle, Prince2™, SAS and SAP, IBM, Microsoft.

Richard’s current fields of research have particularly drawn him to a focus and work around Teaching and Learning in Higher Education along with Big Data, Data Analytics and Social Media Engagement Analysis with a particular interest around Learning Analytics.
