I am Louise Stepien. I am a PBL facilitator and PAT for the MBChB course. I am also a GP partner in a rural practice outside Worcester. I studied Medicine at the University of Birmingham and undertook my Foundation Programme and GP Specialty training in Worcestershire. I have worked in a variety of clinical GP roles since completing my training as well as training Foundation Year 2 doctors, GP trainees and Medical Students from UCL London.

I live in a village north of Worcester with my husband, our son and our rather mischievous dog Ollie. In my spare time I love being outdoors with my family- hiking, cycling and skiing in particular. I am an enthusiastic baker but my creations have a tendency to go off piste! I also love to travel and enjoy exploring the world with my family.

Teaching

As a PBL facilitator within the university this is my main area of teaching interest. Taking on this role within a university is new for me but I am enjoying learning more about the dynamics of PBL and the ways that feeds into adult learning in this setting. I believe this helps students to truly direct their own learning and allows them the flexibility to approach their studies through a variety of media. Teamworking is crucial in medicine as is an ability to communicate and to listen to others and PBL facilitates and nurtures these skills.

External Roles

As a GP partner my work outside the University is diverse and encompasses clinical aspects- seeing patients- and the wider organisational aspects of working within NHS Primary Care. This comprises business administration and decisions, training junior doctors, mentoring allied health professionals, ensuring the wellbeing of everyone within the practice and everything in between!

Clinically I have worked as a salaried doctor, a locum GP and in the Out Of Hours Service. I became a partner in 2019. I have also run specialist Women’s Health clinics and was lead GP for Herefordshire and Worcestershire Long Covid Service. Within my practice my clinical interests are in Women’s Health, Palliative Medicine, Minor Surgery and Diabetes.
