The students were at the Senate to examine the Trust’s pledge, an offer made to all pupils laying out what they can expect from their time at school.

“The Pledge contains things like visiting the sea, learning how to do public speaking, learning first aid,” said Craig Mortelmans, Assistant Head at Windsor High School and Sixth Form, who ran the summit.

He said: “It has been in place for a decade, so we wanted to get the pupils to re-evaluate it. It was fantastic, they wanted to add learning sign language and also life skills like learning about finances.”

He continued: “The energy was amazing, the students weren’t just participating; they were leading.”

Pupils stayed in ³ÉÈËBÕ¾ accommodation and made use of the campus as part of the summit.

Craig said: “All credit to the ³ÉÈËBÕ¾ for the whole trip. The facilities were great, and the team at the Lakeside Campus were brilliant. We’ve already re-booked for next year’s event.”

He continued: “I have spoken to staff since the summit and I’ve learned the children loved being at the University. It meant they got the chance to see what university life is like, and that allows them to aspire to it.”

“Just being able to go into the University Arena and work in the Joel Richards Suite, with the views over the river on one side and on the other, a view of the basketball courts where you can see inclusive sports like wheelchair basketball being played, it was great.”

He added: “The accommodation was brilliant too, and they all enjoyed the BBQ at the end. We’d like to add a full tour of the University for next year so we can show the pupils places like The Hive library and the Medical School.”
